When can a couple
be defined as infertile?
Infertility is
not being able to conceive after regular sex, without the use of any
contraceptive for about 2 years or more.
What are the main
causes of infertility?
The causes of women
have blocked Fallopian tubes, irregular menstruation, abnormal
ovulation. Causes in men are poor sperm count. At many times the
causes are unknown.
What is
endometriosis?
By Endometriosis is
meant the development of endometrial tissue outside the uterus.
Around 5% of women suffer from Endometriosis. The main indications
of having Endometriosis are abdominal pain, especially pain in the
belly, more during menstruation period.
Is fertility
possible post 40 years?
Infertility
increases as we age. under 31 years of age, the pregnancy rate is
around 70%. The rate keeps decreasing as we reach 40 years of age.
The reason for this is that the eggs start to decline. As we all know
that good quality eggs are needed for getting pregnant. so if eggs
are not in good shape then getting pregnant is difficult.
Treating
infertility
There are various
methods of infertility treatment. It is up to the doctor to decide which
method suits you or not. The main methods are :
Surgery- Is
done if the veins have widened or to remove blockages.
Antibiotics-
Are given for treating infections
Medicines –
Cure problems with erections or ejaculations
Hormonal
treatment- if the issue is with hormones
IUI- This
treatment involves the sperms to collect and place into the uterus of
women
IVF- Both
sperms and eggs are collected and placed in a laboratory.
GIFT – This
is also called gamete intra Fallopian transfer) – The sperm and
eggs are positioned in Fallopian tube.
